Our daughter made her first holy communion last week and we had a small party for her special day. I planned on giving our guests lovely communion favors to mark this special party. Religious shops didn’t have exactly what I was looking for, especially in my price range. So I hit the internet in search of the right favors for her party. I did find a nice selection of candles for our tables. I chose decorative tins filled with candy for the grown ups and the children received candies packaged in adorable little teddy bear containers as their communion party favors. As extra party favors I ordered these really sweet religious picture frames with a silver cross. I liked them so much, I bought two more for myself.
It was almost like we were looking for her wedding dress, instead of a dress for her communion. I know that before long she’ll be walking down the aisle on her wedding day. All she needed was a little bouquet and she would look exactly like a tiny little bride. I guess a wedding reception and communion party isn’t all that much different. We ordered a cake, had lots of food for everyone and even had a band. We wanted to make this a day she would always remember, without going overboard on decorations or accessories. I also bought a girls pink photo album for her to have as her very own with pictures of her first holy communion day and the party with her friends and family. We didn’t have a caterer or anything real fancy, it was all home cooked food and some of the other moms helped with preparing the meal. We had fried chicken, potato salad, vegetables and a few different types of salads. Our family and some of our closest friends enjoyed this wonderful afternoon with us. It turned out to be a very nice evening and everyone seemed to have a good time, including our daughter. We bought our daughter a very lovely gold cross and had her name put on it, and she got some very exquisite gifts from our friends and family too.
All during the party I was picturing her wedding day and I could see my little girl walking down the aisle to join her husband to be. Someday, not too far away, we’ll be filling out invitations and picking out wedding accessories together. When she’s ready to start planning her wedding and reception, I’ll know the perfect place for her to go shopping. Not only do they have a fantastic first communion favor section, but they have pretty nice wedding supplies too.
